EMC and Interoperability of Trains
TÜV Product Service has joined a group of technical experts whose aim is to clarify the requirements and application of the following EU Directives to trains:
- EMC Directive 2004/108/EC
- Interoperability Directives 96/48/EC (High Speed), 2001/16/EC (Conventional Directive) and 2004/50/EC (Amendment Directive).
The EMC Directive applies to trains and compliance is typically based on the application of harmonised standards EN 50121-3;2006 parts 1 and 2.
The interoperability Directives provide for common technical standards. Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs) to be applied to relevant rolling stock and certain components. Some TSIs contain requirements for EMC and make reference to relevant parts of the EN 50121 series of standards.
This group of technical experts will assist the Commission services to establish definitive guidelines for train-builders and operators on the correct application of these Directives with regard to EMC.
